Target 1: HBCU for Life

Sorority Goal:  Chapters will enlighten the community regarding HBCUs as institutions of excellence with historical and current significance, as well as raise $10 million to establish and capitalize the Alpha Kappa Alpha HBCU Endowment Initiative.

Zeta Chi Omega Chapter

  • Participated in the Alfred Street Baptist Church HBCU Festival
  • Leveraged social media platforms to promote HBCUs and encourage giving and engagement
  • Ran fundraising campaigns, including assisting w/the $1 Million, One Day

Signature Program: #CAP

Sorority Priority Goal:  Chapters will assist 50,000 high school students with the college application and enrollment process.

Zeta Chi Omega Chapter

  • Partnered with the Minnie Howard campus of T.C. Williams High School to prepare over 100 students for college
  • Hosted FAFSA workshops, career panels
  • Encouraged participation in HBCU festivals
  • Conducted HBCU tours (e.g., Howard University)

Target 2: Women's Healthcare and Wellness

Sorority Goal:  To reach 100,000 women throughout the United States and the communities we serve worldwide in order to raise awareness of risk factors for heart disease through partnerships with community health professionals and engage in the community in low-impact, heart health activities and support.

Zeta Chi Omega Chapter

  • Hosted “Pink Goes Red” event at Pentagon City Mall with free blood pressure checks and literature
  • Hosted nutrition workshop for Project StepOut, one of our local programs
  • Held a wig/scarf/cancer cap/turban drive for Virginia Hospital Center in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness
  • Raised funds for Susan G. Komen
  • Recognized caregivers in the community

Target 3: Building Your Economic Legacy

Sorority Goal:  To reach 20,000 African-Americans committed to increased savings and asset accumulation; to reach 20,000 through workshops on credit repair and monitoring; to increase direct member support of Black businesses by 5% or 10,000 Black businesses; and to supply goods and services to 100,000 homeless individuals and families.

Annually, Zeta Chi Omega Chapter
  • Hosts wealth building, investment, and credit repair workshops
  • Conducts life skills workshops, donated basic care items, held food drives, and hosted meal services for local community shelters
  • Spotlights Black business owners and hosted Black Dollar Christmas, encouraging sorors to “Buy Black” during the holiday season

Target 4: The Arts!

Sorority Goal:  To expose 20,000 middle and high school youth and community members to the legendary works of African-American artists during the Harlem Renaissance and the Black Arts Movement, as well as their influence on contemporary African-American art and culture.

Zeta Chi Omega Chapter

  • Presented numerous workshops featuring music, dance, literature, and history of the Harlem Renaissance to students at Francis C. Hammond Middle School and American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Program.
  • Hosted a strings workshop and donated to DC Strings Workshop Orchestra
  • Promoted black arts events (e.g., Step Afrika!, National Gallery of Art exhibitions, City of Alexandria Poetry Slam)

Target 5: Global Impact

Sorority Goal:  To conduct a large-scale community service project that reaches across regions, borders, and oceans; to collect 500,000 shoes for Soles4Souls, 50,000 eyeglasses for Lions Club International, as well as 50,000 dresses for girls and 25,000 shirts for boys for the Pillowcase Project; to support 10,000 refugees of color through partnerships with organizations engaged in the work.

Zeta Chi Omega Chapter

  • Donated shoes to benefit Soles4Souls and eyeglasses to local Lions Club
  • Held “sewing parties” to sew and deliver dresses and shirts for the Pillowcase Project, benefiting children in Haiti
  • Packaged meals for Rise Against Hunger; raised funds for Feeding Children Everywhere
  • Conducting a year-long “One Child @ a Time” campaign to benefit the African Community Center, which assists refugees
